Why Contracts are Part of the Freelance Process

Why might your freelancer push for a contract? It's generally not a red flag and can protect you in the end.

Trusting Your Freelancer

Most of the people who hire me have never worked with a freelancer before. Many have never worked with a professional writer or editor. Even with reviews and work samples, it can be hard to trust a stranger with your project and its potential outcomes.

Why I Charge Hourly Rates

I'm occasionally asked why I charge hourly for most jobs. Some clients would very much prefer a flat fee or to pay by the word, both of which are common payment models for writers and editors. The short explanation is that each project is unique and requires its own special touch. At the end of the day, an hourly charge ensures I get paid fairly for the work I've done to provide what the client has requested.

Finding the Right Wordsmith

It can be difficult to decide if you're choosing the right person to edit your work or provide writing services, especially if you haven't gone through the process of hiring a freelancer or contractor before.  Changing contractors midway through a project is a hassle that delays the final product and adds to the overall expense.
